Stay Safe This Winter 2025 – COVID-19, Travel Advice & Children’s Health in Ash Vale

Winter brings chilly mornings, darker evenings, festive gatherings, and the start of school terms. It’s also the season when illnesses like COVID-19, flu, and other respiratory viruses can spread more easily. For families, travellers, and anyone looking to stay healthy, understanding precautions and making the right vaccination choices is crucial.

At Ash Vale Pharmacy & Travel Clinic, we’re proud to offer COVID-19 vaccines, children’s flu vaccines, and travel health services, all delivered by our NHS-affiliated, pharmacist-led team. Our goal is simple: keep the Ash Vale community safe, informed, and confident this winter.

Whether it’s ensuring your booster is up to date, preparing for a family holiday, or keeping your children healthy at school, a few simple precautions and timely vaccinations can make all the difference.

A Message from Your Pharmacist – Romil Patel

Winter can be a busy season for everyone, and health concerns can quickly add to the stress. At Ash Vale Pharmacy, we want to make it simple and reassuring for our community to stay protected. From COVID-19 boosters to children’s flu vaccinations, and even travel vaccines, we are here to guide you every step of the way. Our goal is to keep Ash Vale healthy, safe, and confident this winter.

Why COVID-19 Vaccination Is Still Important in Winter 2025

Even though many restrictions have eased, COVID-19 has not disappeared. Winter brings lower temperatures, more indoor gatherings, and longer periods spent in close contact with others — all of which increase the risk of catching respiratory viruses.

Here’s why getting your COVID-19 booster this winter is essential:

Protection Against Winter Variants

The virus continues to mutate, and vaccines have been updated to cover current strains.

A booster enhances immunity and reduces the likelihood of severe illness.

Protecting Vulnerable Populations

Elderly adults, people with underlying health conditions, and immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk.

Being vaccinated helps protect not just you, but also those around you.

Preventing Disruption

Getting sick can disrupt work, school, or family plans, especially around the holiday season.

A booster reduces the chances of illness and the need for isolation.

Community Protection

High vaccination rates in the community reduce overall transmission and keep local healthcare systems from becoming overwhelmed.

At Ash Vale Pharmacy, we provide safe, NHS-affiliated COVID-19 vaccination services for adults and eligible children, making it easy and convenient to stay protected.

COVID-19 Precautions for Winter 2025

Vaccines are the strongest protection against severe illness, but combining them with practical precautions maximizes safety. Here’s what you can do:

1. Keep Indoor Spaces Well-Ventilated

  • Open windows whenever possible to let fresh air circulate.

  • Use air purifiers in rooms that are frequently occupied.

  • Avoid crowded and poorly ventilated indoor areas when possible.

2. Mask in Crowded Areas

  • Wearing a mask in busy indoor spaces, public transport, or large events helps reduce the spread of COVID-19.

  • Masks are especially important for people with underlying health conditions or those who interact with vulnerable individuals.

3. Wash Hands Regularly

  • Frequent handwashing or using hand sanitizer can prevent infection.

  • Teach children to wash hands before meals, after school, and after being outside.

4. Stay Home If Unwell

  • Even mild symptoms like a cough, sore throat, or fatigue could indicate a viral infection.

  • Staying home protects family, friends, and colleagues.

5. Keep Vaccinations Up to Date

  • COVID-19 boosters, children’s flu vaccines, and other seasonal vaccines strengthen your immunity.

  • Schedule appointments early to ensure protection before peak winter periods.

By combining these measures, you reduce your risk and contribute to a safer winter for everyone in Ash Vale.

COVID-19 and Winter Travel

Winter is a popular time for short breaks, holidays, and visiting family abroad. Travel can increase exposure to COVID-19, especially in airports, planes, and hotels. Here’s what you need to know:

Do You Still Need a COVID-19 Vaccine for Travel?

  • Most countries have removed strict vaccination requirements for entry, but some may still recommend it, particularly for vulnerable travellers.

  • Being fully vaccinated helps reduce the risk of infection while travelling.

Travel Health Tips for Winter Trips

Plan Ahead – Check the latest COVID-19 requirements for your destination.

Carry Proof – Even if not required, carrying proof of vaccination is useful.

Pack Safety Essentials – Include masks, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes.

Stay Informed – Monitor local COVID-19 updates while travelling.

At Ash Vale Pharmacy, we also offer travel vaccinations, including yellow fever, hepatitis, and typhoid, so you can travel safely and confidently.

Children’s Health This Winter

Keeping children safe is a top priority during winter, especially with schools and nurseries in full swing. COVID-19 can affect children, though often less severely, and flu remains a significant seasonal risk.

Children’s Flu Vaccine

  • Recommended for children aged 2–11 years.

  • Delivered as a nasal spray, it’s quick, painless, and effective.

  • Helps prevent severe illness and school absences.

COVID-19 Vaccination for Children

  • Children eligible for COVID-19 vaccination benefit from reduced risk of infection and fewer disruptions to school life.

  • Protecting children also helps protect the wider community.

Healthy Habits for Kids

  • Encourage frequent handwashing and good respiratory hygiene.

  • Ensure adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, and regular physical activity.

  • Keep children home if they show symptoms of illness.

At Ash Vale Pharmacy, we make it easy for parents to get children vaccinated safely and conveniently, giving families peace of mind throughout winter.

Why Getting Vaccinated Matters

Vaccinations remain the cornerstone of winter health. Here’s why:

Travel Vaccinations in Ash Vale – Your Complete Guide with Ash Vale Pharmacy & Travel Clinic

At Ash Vale Pharmacy & Travel Clinic, we provide trusted, same-day vaccinations for our local community across Ash Vale, Aldershot, Farnborough, Camberley, Guildford, and the wider Surrey area.

Led by pharmacist Romil Patel, our team is here to help you prepare for your journey with expert guidance, a full range of vaccines, and personal care that large chain clinics often lack. Do you need a Yellow Fever certificate? Is Typhoid recommended for your trip? Or are you leaving at short notice and need fast protection? Whatever your concern, we’re here to make travel health simple and stress-free.

Why Travel Vaccinations Matter

Planning a trip abroad is exciting. You think about flights, hotels, and places you want to visit. But have you thought about protecting your health before you travel? Many countries have diseases that are not common in the UK. Without the right vaccines, you could be at risk.

At Ash Vale Pharmacy & Travel Clinic in Aldershot, Surrey, pharmacist Romil Patel and his team are here to keep you safe. With our Yellow Fever accreditation, same-day travel jabs, and personal care, we make travel vaccinations easy and stress-free.

Whether you are off on a family holiday, business trip, pilgrimage, or backpacking adventure, our local travel clinic ensures you are ready to go.

What Are Travel Vaccinations?

Travel vaccinations are special jabs that protect you against infectious diseases found in other parts of the world. Many of these illnesses are rare in the UK but common abroad. Getting vaccinated not only keeps you safe but also ensures you meet entry requirements for certain countries.

Think of them as a safety net – while you’re exploring new destinations, you shouldn’t have to worry about avoidable health risks.

Before You Fly: Why Travel Vaccines Are So Important?

Travelling exposes you to new environments, climates, and health risks. Some vaccines are:

  • Required for entry into specific countries (e.g. Yellow Fever in parts of Africa and South America).

  • Strongly recommended for personal protection (e.g. Typhoid, Hepatitis A).

  • Advised for long-term stays or specific activities (e.g. Rabies for backpackers or Japanese Encephalitis for rural Asia).

Without the right vaccinations, you risk falling ill abroad, facing medical costs, or even being denied entry at border control.

Common Travel Diseases and Vaccinations

At Ash Vale Pharmacy, we provide a comprehensive range of travel vaccines, starting with the most important and frequently requested:

From all of us at Ash Vale Pharmacy & Travel Clinic -here’s to the next 100 reviews, and to many more years of health, care, and community together.

2 Years of Care, Community & Commitment – Ash Vale Pharmacy & Travel Clinic

Two years ago, we stepped into Ash Vale Pharmacy & Travel Clinic with hearts full of excitement and just a little nervousness. Taking over a well-known local pharmacy was a big responsibility, and we knew earning the community’s trust would take time. There were moments we asked ourselves, “Are we doing enough? Will people trust us the way they always trusted this pharmacy?”

That trust has now become the foundation of who we are. It’s our biggest strength, our proudest achievement and every day, we work hard to live up to it.

But every day, one thing kept us going – you ♥️. The warm smiles, the conversations at the counter, the way you welcomed us into your lives – it gave us the courage to build something lasting.

Ashavale Pharmacy turns 2!

Challenges That Made Us Stronger

Like any new journey, we faced hurdles. The early months were tough learning to run the business smoothly, managing stock shortages, and sometimes hearing frustration when things didn’t go as planned. There were days we felt the pressure of balancing everything – late nights, endless phone calls and the constant worry that we might disappoint our customers.

But we never wanted to shy away from challenges. Instead, we stood by the community. If someone needed urgent medication and we didn’t have it, we found a way to get it. When travel rules kept changing during COVID‑19, we spent hours ensuring people had the right advice and documents. We learned that real care is not just about medicines – it’s about showing up for people when they need you the most!

Moments That Touched Our Hearts

There are memories we’ll never forget – helping a nervous traveller get their Yellow Fever vaccine before a trip, comforting an elderly patient who had no one else to talk to, or celebrating when a customer returned just to say, “You made things easier for me when I was struggling.”

We’ve seen babies grow into toddlers, young people leave for university, and families support each other through tough times. These small, personal moments have been the true reward of the last two years.

Celebrating Two Years – Together more Stronger!

As we celebrate this milestone, we want the celebrations to be about you – the people who stood with us. Over the coming days, the pharmacy will be filled with balloons, decorations, and happy energy. We’ll be sharing memories and inviting you to be part of new ones.

Giveaways – A Small Thank You for a Big Journey

We’ll also have special giveaways and little surprises at the pharmacy. we just want to bring smiles to the people who have given us so much support. The message is simple – we are grateful and we want you to feel it.

A Message from the Heart

These two years have taught us that a pharmacy isn’t just a place to collect prescriptions. It’s a place where people seek comfort, advice, and connection. We are proud to be a part of your everyday lives in the good times and the hard ones.

To our wonderful Ash Vale community – thank you for allowing us into your world, for standing with us when things weren’t perfect, and for cheering us on as we’ve grown.

We promise to keep showing up, keep improving, and keep putting you at the centre of everything we do. Here’s to the next chapter – stronger, healthier, and always together.

With love,
Romil Patel & the Ash Vale Pharmacy & Travel Clinic Team.

First in Ash Vale: We Now Offer the Yellow Fever Vaccine at Ash Vale Pharmacy

We’re proud to bring another first to our community.
Ash Vale Pharmacy and Travel Clinic is now officially registered as a Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, making us the first and only pharmacy in Ash Vale to offer this essential travel vaccine.

For years, local residents had to travel outside the area, often to major towns or cities, just to access this vital protection. But not anymore.

We’ve brought the Yellow Fever vaccine home to Ash Vale.

What is Yellow Fever and Why Does it Matter?

Yellow Fever is a serious, sometimes deadly viral disease spread by mosquitoes in parts of Africa and South America. Symptoms can range from mild fever to liver failure, internal bleeding, and death.

There’s no cure, but there is prevention: a single vaccine that offers long-lasting, often lifelong, protection.

Many countries will require proof of vaccination (called the ICVP) before allowing you to enter. Without it, your travel plans could be disrupted or denied entirely.

You Asked. We Delivered.

At Ash Vale Pharmacy, we’ve always listened to our community. More and more of our patients told us:

“I wish I didn’t have to go all the way to Guildford or London just for one travel vaccine.”

So we did something about it.

We completed our certification with NaTHNaC (National Travel Health Network and Centre) and brought the Yellow Fever vaccine to your doorstep. Today, we’re proud to offer official, certified Yellow Fever vaccination right here in Ash Vale.

What’s Included in Our Service?

When you book with us, you’ll receive:

  • A travel health consultation with our trained pharmacist

  • A single-dose Yellow Fever vaccine

  • Your International Certificate of Vaccination (ICVP) issued immediately

  • Advice on any other vaccines or health risks for your destination

All for just £75
No hidden fees. No long waits. No need to travel far.

Booking is Easy
